HOT TOPIC: Safe Space Feedback

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for the dynamic and thoughtful discussion surrounding the development of positive policy for PulseWire, and the best course of action when a member's "tone" is out of synch with our culture of respect, dialogue and listening to women’s viewpoints and perspectives. As you know, our priority is for PulseWire to be a safe space for women to raise their voices, and to be encouraged and empowered by their fellow community members and the world at large. This topic sparked much conversation and reinforced that you – the community of women at its core – value an environment that fosters vibrant dialogue while respecting the community spirit and culture. In cases of dissension, you believe that transformation can occur though dialogue, and that only through the free exchange of ideas and expression can we build the PulseWire of our dreams.

Upon reviewing these powerful and moving responses, we have developed the following policy to ensure that PulseWire remains a safe and vibrant online space for women and the men who partner with us.

1. When a new member joins our online community, they will receive a welcome letter that presents our vision for PulseWire and touches upon our policies, with a link to the full Terms of Agreement.

2. As is our current policy, posts that include threats, offensive, and/or harmful content are cause for immediate deletion of content and the account, accompanied by email notification explaining our action.

3. In cases where the "tone" is out of synch with our culture, we want to encourage our community to give each other the benefit of the doubt and assume that others are speaking with the best intentions. However, upon the first "offense", an email will be forwarded to the member reminding them of our policies and requesting that the member confine their comments to a tone that encourages dialogue, and is supportive of all community members. We will ask that the member edit or remove the offensive post stating our reasons for the request. If they do not agree with our policies, we will suggest that they find a more appropriate forum to express themselves.

4. Should the member continue to use offensive language, we will unpublish the offending post and block the account, with an accompanying email explaining our actions.

I thank you all for coming together to collectively shape the PulseWire culture, and help it grow into a powerful movement of voices that will transform the world.

With great respect and in partnership,
The World Pulse team
