Welcome

Namaskar. It is with great delight that we welcome you to PulseWire. You are doing such important work and I applaud you for your efforts to provide a forum for free expression and ideas. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know and I will try to steer you in the right direction. You already know member Anjana (http://www.worldpulse.com/user/1794) and Khushbu (http://www.worldpulse.com/user/1450) as they are contributors to ventzine.com but we also have many other members from Nepal doing inspiring work for women and youth.

You might be interested in connecting with Sunita, a student at Asian Univeristy in Bangladesh, who is organizing a meeting in Kathmandu in July to discuss ways to educate and empower women in Nepal. Sunita can be found at:

I look forward to hearing more about your work with ventzine.com, and I hope that you will find PulseWire to be engaging, inspiring and thought-provoking.

To Janice

Hi Janice,

How are you? I really love this site! It's a wonderful portal to connect with people and have your voices heard! We are trying to create the same type of platform here on VENT! I am hoping you can steer us in the right direction. We are currently looking for partners and sponsors on who can finance us so we can move forward with providing workshops, and we would like to pay our contributors and writers. Both our creative writing and photojournalism workshop was a big success, and that's thanks to our team and the facilitators who volunteered their time. We are also starting a mentoring program for anyone interested in honing their skills Their work will be published on VENT! Magazine. I see that you have a same type of program on World Pulse. We lack mentors and it would be great if your mentors could take the time to mentor our students. In a nutshell, this is what we are about:

V.E.N.T! Magazine is an independent, online magazine based in Kathmandu, Nepal by and for a new generation of progressive-thinkers. Our magazine is committed to citizenship journalism and serves as a platform for emerging writers and visual artists, gives citizens a voice in the media, and brings a fresh perspective of various issues often overlooked by the mainstream media. We promote alternative, grassroots journalism—reporting things we see in our own backyards and speaking out for those who cannot. We believe in the power of information and expression to inspire change.

In Nepal, there are many media outlets now, but journalism is still fairly new here. I feel that the media here is banking on westernization, and journalism is more of a commercial thing (business) than reporting. I want Nepalese youth to grow to become responsible reporters with a conscious without being bogged down by big media conglomerates. In our workshops, we want to teach responsible journalism, ethics, the art of writing, grassroots journalism, etc. Most journalism teachers lack this training. I believe that the media is a very powerful tool for change and it can shape the youth of today. We want to be part of this movement, even in a small way. There are many, like Anjana and Khushbu dedicated to making a difference and we would like them to develop as responsible journalists and change makers. We feel that our magazine can do that.

Perhaps you can steer us in the right direction or World Pulse can extend their hands to help our cause. I appreciate you reading this and looking forward to hearing from you!

With warm regards,
Yuko
