Idea Sharing

Dear friends and Colleagues.

Glad to have us all again to continue our journey of virtual sharing and learning. This week, I thought we could share on what women empowerement is.

On the attatchment below, we would find the reading material. It is a direct excerpt from The H Aliance on international consortium that works to promote gender equity among youths " Working with young women: Empowerment, Rights and Health".

The material first presents what the authors consider women empowerment to be as well as its dimensions,
The role of the facilitator in the process of empowerement and,
What an empowered lady should be aware and capable to do.

Our task

Read through this short reading material and in a 500 word essay,
1) Define women empowerement from our own perspective (The operational definition we have been using in our work with ourselves or other grass root women groups),

2)Narrate how you once played or would play the role of a facilitator in empowering women in a well defined context(e.g women who are sexually abused yet have not right to speak up in public).

3) From the list of what empowered women should be capable of, tell us in your same context, what you enabled or would enable your participants to be capable of?

4) What major difficulties did you face or forsee to face in the process? ( we are interested in these difficulties,so dress them under a bolded subheading in the essay as difficulties. This will enable other community members to get back to you with appropriate help)

Incase you have auto-empowered your self, we are MORE THAN EXCITED TO READ HOW YOU WENT ABOUT IT,WOMEN EMPOWERMENT STARTS WITH SELF EMPOWERMENT.

Lets submitt our essays on or before the 9th of June 2009

Cheers.
