A BRILLIANT YOUNG LADY

I listened to Kiss FM this morning and was really touched and attracted to words coming from a twenty one year old Somali lady by the name of Najma Ahmed.
Najma is the chairperson of Somali Youth Leadership Forum. Her group has organized an event to be in held in Nairobi Kenya on Saturday 16th May at 6pm to showcase the other side of Somali.
She appealed to everyone who might had been listening to attend this function to see the other side of this war torn country where gunshots, bombs explosions and piracy has been the order of the day.
Her presentation to the radio station was so humble and appealing more so when she urged Kenyan's who have hosted then, mediated their peace and even enabled her pursue her studies to ensure they don't let their country go to the dogs.
Considering the lives that has been lost in Somali, she urged Kenyans to learn what negative ethnicity could do to a peaceful country and to its women and children.
Somali's case is beyond pity and hearing such a young woman put in her effort for people to sober up and bring peace and hope to the people, women and children of this war torn country is a tremendous wake up call and we at worldpulse can't afford be left behind but to also raise our voices to the same struggle.
May the Almighty give Najma the wisdom and strength to fight to the end.
Thanks
Judy

Love it

Judy -
What an incredible tip! I think i found her organization online too...http://www.sswcsom.org/index.html . We will surely follow up to see if we can interview her. Also, I see they have a Cyber Cafe for women. What a great program. Thank you, thank you for pointing us in this direction. It is so important for the voices of Somali women to be heard.

Inspiration

I feel proud of Najma Ahmed for saying all of those things on the radio. You seem excited by her actions. I like the messages "Never give up even when everything turns bad." It's true you can't stop daily life, just go on...
Thanks for sharing.

Najma!

I was excited to read this post. While I have never met Najma in person, she is collaborating with a colleague and I on a very important project dealing with women's reproductive health and the traditional practice of female cutting. If anyone is interested in learning more, check out our website at www.iamnotcut.com. I am so happy that voices like Najma's are being heard - communication is such a powerful tool in creating change.

Chills

Judith,

I got chills as I read your post and then even more as I clicked on the link above, reading the words at the same time. I. AM. NOT. CUT. Thank you for sharing how this radio spot impacted you.

Once again I got moved by an item on the news headlines on Citizen TV. The line was a question and went like this: Who made Ruto cry?.
Mr William Ruto is the Minister for Agriculture in the government of Kenya. He happened to have attended an event organised by the Israeli ambassador on the occasion of their Independence day. The ambassador decided not to celebrate this day day but instead donated about US$ 1000 towards an orphans home in Korogocho slums of Nairobi.
A young lady called Susan narrated her ordeal taking care of her siblings and the difficulties she has faced since their parent's death.
Her presentation was so strong such that the agricultural minister stared reality in the face contrary to the political class's lifestyle.
The gap between the rich and the poor in Kenya is such that a rich man can afford 20kg of meat for his dogs every week while the poor go without a single meal.
The young lady reminded our political class that poverty is real and if we could only imitate Christ's love for mankind then the world woud be a better place.
Mr Ruto should therefore know that this is the life an ordinary poor African go through due to ever rising poverty levels and when we ask for empowerment they should know that its not out of nothing.
For as long as I can remain in contact with my conscience I will always endeavour to hold a needy child's hands and try and give him/her hope.
God bless Worldpulse.
