Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women and Art

image

Art Works for Change uses art to bring visibility to violence against women. Their new exhibition, "Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women and Art" will be in San Diego until December 12th, and will continue on to other cities throughout the world in 2010.

Violence against women occurs in every nation and every culture, and often remains invisible. The exhibit is premised on the visionary potential of art to bring awareness to the topic while avoiding tabloid and sensational imagery.

In the exhibit, 32 contemporary artists from 25 countries address the basic right of women and girls to a safe and secure life. The project combines the highest integrity of art with important social messaging and storytelling to help create awareness, inspiration, and address systems for positive social change and action.

Visit the Art Works for Change website to view the exhibition online, or to get more information about attending in person as it moves on to additional cities.
