Module 1 Writing Assignment

An Interview and a Profile

Your assignment for Module 1 is to conduct an interview of a woman activist in your community and write her profile. The goal of this assignment is to connect you with and learn more about women's leadership in your country. We want to know what powerful voices are rising from the ground up—and we want you to be the loudspeaker!

All the information you need to complete this assignment is in the Module 1 learning materials. If you have any questions, please remember to send them to zoe@worldpulse.com before our Q&A conference call.

Suggested Process

In preparation for this assignment, we suggest that you:

  1. List all the women you would like to interview.
  2. If you'd like feedback on possible story angles, have a conversation with your mentors, post to the Correspondents and Mentors Group or to your World Pulse journal and ask for feedback.
  3. Narrow your list to two to three women to interview. It's important to have a back up plan in case your top choice is busy, does not want to be interviewed, or something unforeseen happens.
  4. Interview your subject.
  5. Write your story!
  6. Send a draft to your Editorial Mentor at least one week before the final due date.
  7. Post your final story in your World Pulse Journal.

Safety and Security Reminder

Your safety and security is always important to us. When you choose the topic for your assignments, always make sure to consider your safety first. We want to hear what is going on in your country and community, but not at the risk of your life or well-being. Carefully consider the implications of an article that criticizes government, important figures or a contentious issue on your safety.
