World Pulse: Powered by YOU!

At World Pulse we are greeting the new year with gratitude and optimism. We hit a milestone this past year as our online community, the heart and soul of World Pulse, grew by over 20%! What a great opportunity to acknowledge and thank the volunteers whose leadership and dedication are propelling us toward our most impactful year yet in 2014.

What does it take to expand a global community to over 20,000 members while maintaining a safe and uniquely supportive and engaging online culture? It takes thousands of hours of tending, nurturing, monitoring, and behind-the-scenes heavy lifting… far beyond the capacity of our small (yet mighty) staff in Portland, Oregon.

With a goal as ambitious as lifting and uniting women’s voices worldwide, each and every one of you are essential to World Pulse's success. Thank you to all who have given a piece of yourself to this movement: whether it’s an afternoon of your attention to global issues, a story submission to a World Pulse digital action campaign, or a donation to support our work.

We extend an extra special thank you to the following categories of community leaders:

Community Listeners and Welcome Committee

You set the tone for interaction on World Pulse. Volunteer Listeners make hundreds upon hundreds of supportive comments on community journal posts. Volunteer Welcomers greet each new member, reinforcing her important role in this global movement. Thank you for your supportive, authentic presence on WorldPulse.com and for enabling the voices of grassroots women leaders to emerge stronger and louder. Your efforts prove that when women are heard, they will change the world.

Voices of Our Future Mentors

To our Vision Mentors and Editorial Mentors, you are the glue that makes Voices of Our Future such a unique and effective digital empowerment training program. Thanks to your immense dedication, this year we saw 100% program completion for the first time in four program cycles! Thank you for contributing to Voices of Our Future Correspondents' successful program experiences, and for amplifying the voices and visions of emerging women leaders!

French Speaking Volunteers

Thanks to your efforts, the predominantly French-speaking Democratic Republic of Congo is now our most active region! Your accurate and meaningful translations and personal touch have extended World Pulse’s impact into francophone countries. This year you facilitated video-conference translations between World Pulse and Congolese community leaders. You translated outreach and engagement materials to ensure community participation. You welcomed over 100 new members, translated nearly 800 journal posts from French to English, and provided about 1000 supportive and engaging comments. Merci!

We now have over 50 translators working with us now. Meet them here!

Online Community Management Volunteers

We appreciate your hard work to create a positive experience for all of our online community members. You help manage the heavy volume of email questions and requests, find opportunities and resources to share on our Resource Exchange, actively engage members, and uphold the quality and culture of this special community. Thank you. We couldn’t do it without you!

Event and Office Volunteers

A huge thank you to our office and event volunteers who made invaluable contributions to a successful World Pulse LIVE event this fall, data management, development and administrative support, and the monitoring and evaluation of our programs. You keep our operations running smoothly and help us to pull off special events. This year we had a volunteer step up to lead our first ever Portland, OR USA and Kampala, Uganda World Pulse meet-ups. Thank you for your dependability and leadership!

Vocal Contributors

Whether or not you define yourself as a leader, if you have the vocal contributor badge by your name, it means that you are leading by example, demonstrating the power of voice, modeling transformative listening through supportive comments, and sharing resources with the World Pulse community. You give others the confidence to open up and share their ideas and solutions with the world. One sign that your active engagement inspires others: We now have the largest group of vocal contributors we’ve ever had!
